Experience the Logistics Chain – Hybrid Edition 2022

After successful physical editions in 2018 and 2019 and digital versions in 2020 and 2021, 2022 marked the fifth time Experience the Logistics Chain was organised. This year featured a hybrid approach, combining the benefits of both physical and digital experiences. The goal remained unchanged: to inspire pupils, students, and job seekers to pursue education and careers in the logistics sector.

A Sector Full of Speed and Innovation

In recent years, the logistics sector has evolved into a knowledge-intensive and innovative industry. Many people still think of logistics as involving waybills and manually moving boxes, but during Experience the Logistics Chain 2022, it became clear that the sector revolves around technology, digitalisation, and sustainability.

Employers in logistics are experiencing increasing demand for qualified professionals, while the supply remains insufficient. Through a mix of digital and physical program elements, participants received a realistic picture of the career opportunities and innovations in the sector.

A Hybrid Programme

In 2022, Experience the Logistics Chain was spread over multiple days and target groups, combining online sessions and physical company visits:

7 September – Innovations and Sustainability in Logistics (University & Applied Sciences)

University and applied sciences students participated in a digital program focusing on the latest innovations and sustainability challenges within logistics. The day concluded with a physical meeting at the Supply Chain Development Center, where participants engaged in discussions with companies and sector experts.

14, 21 & 28 September – Physical Introduction Days at Companies

On these Wednesday afternoons, students had the chance to physically visit various logistics companies in Venlo. They were introduced to daily practice and sector challenges in an interactive manner.

7 October – Discovering Logistics for Secondary School & Vocational Students

For secondary school and vocational students, the day began with a digital introduction to the hidden logistics chain behind everyday purchases. This was followed by a physical event at Supply Chain Valley, where students directly connected with further education providers and potential employers. Participating logistics companies facilitated the day, and educational opportunities (vocational, applied sciences, and academic) were the main focus during a meet & greet.

Initiators and Collaborations

The strength of Experience the Logistics Chain lies in collaboration between logistics companies, educational institutions, and labor market organizations. In 2022, the event was organised by:

Logistics companies: Customs Support, Ewals Cargo Care, KLG Europe, LogicLeap, Seacon Logistics, Rhenus Logistics.

Educational institutions & knowledge organizations: Maastricht University, Fontys University of Applied Sciences Venlo, Gilde Opleidingen, and various secondary schools in the North Limburg region, Meet the Youngsters.

Government & labor market organizations: Employers Service Point North Limburg (for job seeker participation), Supply Chain Valley (co-organizer and venue for some of the activities).

Working Together for the Future

In logistics, everything revolves around collaboration and coordination, and the same goes for Experience the Logistics Chain. By connecting education, government, and the private sector, we aim to boost new talent intake and strengthen the sector.
